SAVING THE MEMORY
Nearly a decade ago a group of 198 Squadron RAF veterans got together to form "The Association of 198 Squadron RAF Pilots & Ground Crews" with the sole purpose in mind of bringing together former Squadron personnel and recording their memories and recollections for posterity. However, by a few years later the Association had also built up a large archived collection of memorabilia regarding the Squadron.
Due mainly to the many material contributions made by veterans, and relatives of those who had served with 198, the Association's archives quickly became an extensive source of first hand memories, sound recordings, films, photographs, flying log books, insignia, telegrams, intelligence reports, diagrams, and other various documentation and items relating to the Squadron and seventy one former personnel.
Sadly, however, by the early months of 2009 most of the Association's veterans had passed away and with the death of its founder, ______ ______, and several other Squadron veterans around the middle of that year, it was regrettably decided to bring the Association and its website to an end in July. Subsequently all of the Association's archives were transferred to "198 Archives" in Carmarthenshire, Wales, for preservation and safe keeping.
Over the years Squadron veterans had donated so much material and information to the Association that it seemed to us, as the newly entrusted keepers of it, a shame to let all of their first hand memories completely disappear from public view. It was with this in mind that we have arranged to publish on the following pages some of the Association's original website along with a little information about us.
